OCTOBER TIP OF THE MONTH

These are some helpful tips to help make Halloween safe for food allergic children:

  1. Give out candy that have clear lists of ingredients on their labels so parents can decide which candies are safe for their children.
  2. If you are giving a Halloween party, be mindful of those children with food allergies.  Prepare special treats that they can enjoy too.
  3. For trick or treat instead of giving out the usual candies, hand out trinkets such as bubbles, spooky rings, stickers, or bracelets and keep a stash of “safe candy” that has no nuts, dairy or soy products in them.  Suckers and bubble gum are usually a safe bet.
  4. If you know there is a child in your neighborhood that has food allergies, ask their parents what treats are safe for them and have these treats available at trick or treat.
